This map displays new California fires in real-time as they are reported by the California Highway Patrol. Fires can be of any size, from brush fires in the median, to major wildfires. They all show up here first.

What most people don’t know is that motorists and police officers in California are usually the first to report fires. They call it in, and then CHP decides whether or not the local fire department should be involved.

New fires appear as contracting red circles, just like when you first load the page.
